January 2008
As President of the Emerald Coast Senior Scratch Series (ECSSS), I welcome you to what I believe is the best venue for continuing senior amateur tournament golf in the Southeast.
The ECSSS began in 1992 with the majority of our members residing in Florida and Alabama. We also proudly count members from as far away as North Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee,
Wisconsin, and Kentucky.
The ECSSS organizational concept and the quality of play of the membership make us welcome at the best golf courses along the Gulf Coast in northwest Florida, south Alabama, and Mississippi.
The ECSSS is now in its 16th year as a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting fellowship and friendly competition in golf among senior amateur golfers. It is significant that the ECSSS
has been recognized by the United States Golf Association
among their subordinate organizations and is an approved
"point getter" if one is seeking membership in the
prestigious Society of Seniors golf organization.
The ECSSS By-Laws provides for a nine man elected Board of Directors to represent you and to assist in the running of the organization and tournaments. The Directors are all experienced ECSSS players. Please – do not hesitate to contact me or any other board member when you have questions, concerns or suggestions regarding the organization.
This E-booklet is the annual ECSSS “Yearbook.” As you read through the book, you will see our history and be introduced to the charter members who had the vision to establish the ECSSS. You will note that we have grown from just a few tournaments in 1992 to 11 regular season events this year and the Senior Masters Match Play Championship, which marks the grand finale of our tournament year.
You will see that our players strive to qualify for the
Senior Masters Match Play event as well as the Challenge Cup Team
through point accumulation during the tournament season.
Most significantly, the top point winners for both the Open
and Super senior divisions are recognized as "Player of the
Year".
I would be remiss without mentioning our sponsors who are key partners in the success of the ECSSS - we salute them for their Edwin Watts Golf Shops has been sponsor of the “Player of the Year” since our inception, and Windswept Dunes will be the host of the Senior Masters Match play Championship.
We hope you enjoy the
ECSSS tour and if there is ever any question about your tour
please bring it to our attention. Hit ‘em long, hit ‘em straight, have fun, and remember our motto - fellowship and friendly competition.
